Loving the Kia Soul in California
July 8, 2013 by
We just got back from Orange County California and Kia was kind enough to lend us a Kia Soul to drive. As our faithful readers know, we love Kias and try to drive them whenever we get the chance. Our Soul was an eye catching metallic green Kia calls “Alien”. The car itself was fully loaded with a lot of great features like a back up camera, leather seats, remote start, navigation, and satellite radio.
Driving the Soul is definitely a unique experience. It’s very peppy, gets great mileage, has incredibly maneuverability and has cool ambient lights that changes with the music. All these traits make the Soul very fun to drive. It’s kind of like a point-and-shoot car. It also handles incredibly well. It was very exciting on the twisty canyon roads of California. On the freeway, it has more than enough power to keep and get around traffic, especially with the optional 2 liter 4 cylinder engine. The seating position is really nice too. The seats are at hip level and make getting in and out of the car so easy. We also found that having a higher seating position makes it so much easier to load a baby seat into the back seat. Also, sitting up high gives you a bit more confidence on the road, you can just see farther!

Kia Soul in Colorado!

For many of us, a car says a bit…or a lot about our personality. For those of you who have a lot of personality, the Kia Soul maybe just the car for you. First off, it is not the typical mommy car, it has got some “BAM” to it. It’s cool, funky, hip, urban. Second, even with the edge it has to it, it is incredibly practical and a great drive. We got to spend a week with a Kia Soul in Colorado and had a great time with it. Ours came in the very chill color of “Alien”, which is sort of a very crisp metallic green. It had a very hip sand and black hound’s-tooth cloth interior. It came fully loaded with satellite radio, back up camera, Bluetooth phone connectivity, CVT transmission and some of the best looking wheels we have ever seen on a car in its class. The Soul has 4 doors and a liftback hatch which makes it extremely practical and versatile. You can get a ton of stuff into it and when the rear seats are folded, it is downright cavernous. In addition, something that we know urban drivers will appreciate is the elevated seated position. You get a great view of the road, being a bit above most other drivers without having to drive a huge SUV or minivan. Think of the Soul as a small car on the outside and a huge crossover on the inside. In a few days, I’ll post more about the parent friendly features of the Soul and some driving impressions.
