Loving the Kia Soul in California

We just got back from Orange County California and Kia was kind enough to lend us a Kia Soul to drive. As our faithful readers know, we love Kias and try to drive them whenever we get the chance. Our Soul was an eye catching metallic green Kia calls “Alien”. The car itself was fully loaded with a lot of great features like a back up camera, leather seats, remote start, navigation, and satellite radio.

Driving the Soul is definitely a unique experience. It’s very peppy, gets great mileage, has incredibly maneuverability and has cool ambient lights that changes with the music. All these traits make the Soul very fun to drive. It’s kind of like a point-and-shoot car. It also handles incredibly well. It was very exciting on the twisty canyon roads of California. On the freeway, it has more than enough power to keep and get around traffic, especially with the optional 2 liter 4 cylinder engine. The seating position is really nice too. The seats are at hip level and make getting in and out of the car so easy. We also found that having a higher seating position makes it so much easier to load a baby seat into the back seat. Also, sitting up high gives you a bit more confidence on the road, you can just see farther!

My next post will talk about the 10 Things We Love About The Kia Soul. Also, follow us on twitter at @alistbabynet

Best Disneyland Activities for Baby

We had the most magical trip to Disneyland! It was one of the most memorable days of my life. When AListBaby girl is happy, we are happy. And let me tell you…she enjoyed every single second of Disneyland! While she is only seven months old, there are many activities for babies to enjoy. We took full advantage of Disneyland Park, and even spent some time at Disney California Adventure Park. Let me tell you about the top 10 activities during our best day ever!

1.) Our first stop after wandering down Main Street in Disneyland Park was Fantasyland! We started the day by visiting the princesses in Fantasy Faire. Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty were there. They are in private areas in The Royal Hall, so you are able to meet one at a time, and get photos of your little one with each of them. Mr. AList snapped photos, but the professional photographers at Disney snapped photos, as well. (Note: Disney photographers will snap photos of you throughout the park if you ask them to. After your first Disney photo, you are handed a Disney Photo Pass card, and throughout the day you hand the photographers that same card before or after they take your photo. They will scan it, so when you get home you can access all of your images, and decide which ones to buy, or purchase a CD of all of your images. All of the photos shown on this blog were taken with our own camera.) AListBaby got a kick out of all of the princesses! Sleeping Beauty was especially sweet, and played peek-a-boo with her, making her laugh.

2.) AListBaby’s first ride ever was King Arthur Carrousel! I placed her on a white pony for a quick photo, but the three of us found a great seat on a bench for the ride. She is a little too young to sit on a pony for the whole ride, even with assistance. AListBaby loved the music and the breeze on her cheeks as we rode the ride. We have video of her laughing and smiling. A great first ride experience!

3.) Dumbo the Flying Elephant is such an adorable ride! This was one of our longer waits of the day. We probably waited 25 minutes, but it was worth it. However, AListBaby feel asleep in the line! She slept blissfully throughout the ride, and Mr. AList and I enjoyed bringing Dumbo up and down, as well as the  birds-eye view of Fantasyland. This ride is a terrific choice for babies. We will bring her back the next time we go to Disneyland, so she can enjoy it while awake!

4.) It’s a Small World is a Disneyland icon, and it was a cool, relaxing choice for us during the warmest part of the day. AListBaby loved the sweet music, and looking at all of the moving dolls from across the world. Her eyes were big throughout the entire ride. She kept moving her head from side to side so she could see all of the attraction! This is a very calm, sweet ride that any baby would enjoy.

5.) The parade was absolutely incredible. About 45 minutes before the Mickey’s Soundsational Parade started, we found a front-row spot outside of It’s A Small world. We covered our stroller handle with a blanket, which was a good shade ‘tent’ for me to huddle under with AListBaby. She was content to people watch. When the first float appeared, and I saw her truly clap for the first time! She must have seen people around us clapping, because I looked down, and there she was, clapping away, her little hands not quite connecting all the way. The music, dancing, and floats were outstanding. This is a great chance for little ones to see all of the characters. I noticed some of the princesses waved specifically at AListBaby. I was glad we had a front-row spot. She was enthralled for the entire parade, bouncing her legs up and down, clapping, and looking at me to make sure I was seeing how fabulous this all was.

6.) We went to Mickey’s House at met Mickey in Mickey’s Toontown! While I held AListBaby the entire time, toddlers would enjoy walking around and hopping on Mickey’s “furniture”. The house is cool, completely covered, and the line fairly short. You are escorted to see Mickey one group at a time, so you have a private moment with him. AListBaby took one look at him, smiled, and grabbed his nose! Then she giggled. She loved him! Mr. AList took photos, but again, the Disney photographers are there, too.

7.) We needed to make a wardrobe change after lunch, but luckily there are plenty of shops for adorable baby clothes at Disney! We purchased a Minnie Mouse dress at Chester Drawers on Main Street. AListBaby had a fun time at this shop, trying on Minnie ears, and checking out all of the plush toys. (Where else but at Disney will you see rows and rows of fabulous plush toys?) We eventually decided on a big Dumbo at the end of the day, but checking out the Disney shops was definitely a fun activity for baby.

8.) We went to Disney California Adventure Park for the evening, and our first stop was Mickey’s Fun Wheel.  I thought this would be a relaxing ride for baby. Whew! We were in for a surprise—but we all LOVED it. It turns out when you enter the ferris wheel there are two options. One for a “traditional” gondola, and the second for a “sliding” car. We chose a “moving” car by taking a right at the entrance of the ride. We did not know we were in for a THRILL ride. It is part ferris wheel and part roller coaster. The first time our car flew down the tracks my heart skipped a beat. But then I heard AListBaby belly laugh! She loved it! I will never forget her laughs and smiles on this ride. I guess we have an adventurous baby! But I think the “sliding” car could be scary for some babies. So I would stick with the “traditional” gondola to be safe if you bring baby on this one.

9.) We heard “a bug’s land” was a fun place for babies, so that was our next stop! We chose Heimlich’s Chew Chew train. While AListBaby fell asleep in line, we had fun on this very baby-friendly ride. The train weaves through foods, and Heimlich talks throughout the ride. It is a fun, relaxing choice for little ones. The caterpillar train is awfully cute!

10.) It was fun walking through the Disney California Adventure Park in the evening. Hollywood Land was lit up to look like a glamorous street from the 1920′s. Cars Land was an absolutely fascinating area for anyone who has seen the movie–it looks just like it! And the rock structure seen throughout the park is absolutely incredible. Especially the golden glow at sunset–it looks like a rock structure found in nature. We ended our day with the spectacular World of Color show over the water of Paradise Pier. It is water, lights, fire, and animation. And just when you think it will not get any more fabulous…it does! I highly recommend the show. AListBaby was drowsy (the show starts at 9 p.m.), but still captivated. It was an outstanding way to end the day.

We highly recommend bringing your baby to Disney. While baby may not remember the visit–you will cherish those sweet “first Disney” memories for life.

AListBaby is 6 Months Old

AListBaby turned 6 months old a few weeks ago! Can you believe it? Half birthdays are a pretty big deal at our house. We celebrated by gifting her a pink balloon–her very first one! I also made her this fun hat. She is the sunshine of our life. I love hearing her giggle everyday. And watching her nose wrinkle when she gives us a big smile. She loves it when mama sings, plays patty cake, and plays the “little red caboose” game. We visited her AListGrandpa and AListGranne a few weeks ago, and she gave mama a big kissy. That was too cute! She smiles whenever her Daddy walks into the room. She is a very sweet baby, and we love every single second with her.

Diaper Bag Essentials!

Before baby, I was footloose and fancy free. I knew exactly what I needed to grab before I headed out the door. Purse, sunglasses, keys, and coat. I was all ready to go! Now with baby in the house,  a lot of thought has to go into what to put into the diaper bag. I can relate to those mountaineers who have to pack just right to make it up Mt. Everest. For me, I have four essentials. First, diaper balm for prevention of diaper rashes. Sophie, the squeaky giraffe, for entertainment. Hand sanitizer, to keep our hands germ free. Fourth and most importantly, Huggies Snug & Dry diapers!

Thankfully, baby girl has never had diaper rash, we like to think that’s because we proactively use diaper balm to keep her moisturized.

Next up, we have Sophie. Sophie is a brilliant squeaky toy. For a baby, Sophie is a wonderful product. It squeaks, it bends, it apparently tastes really good because baby girl loves to chew on it. Also, as any of our regular readers know. Giraffes are our favorite animal, because they have the biggest heart in the animal kingdom and are head and shoulders above the rest.

I have to admit, I’m a germaphobe! Who knows where everyone else has been putting there hands?! I’m not taking any chances so I always have hand sanitizer in my diaper bag. I use it not only on my hands but I also wipe down public  baby changing tables with it. There are some really great sanitizers out there that include moisturizers and aloe, my hands never get dried out.  Baby girl has never had so much as a sniffle and I like to think that my constant hand sanitizer use has something to do with it!

Finally, we love Huggies Snug & Dry diapers! Baby girl wears a size 3 and they fit her very well. She can move freely in them, they never leak and they look really cute too! We have tried several other diapers and we definitely think Huggies Snug & Dry diapers are the best. They work for up to 12 hours, which is great at night when baby is asleep and we do not want to disturb her sleep. The diaper also has a touch of whimsy with pictures of Mickey & Minnie Mouse on the front. We always tell baby girl what Mickey and Minnie are up to!

AListBaby Loves: Huggies Designer Wipes Tubs

At the AList House, we are always looking for the beautiful balance of function and fashion. We are happy with the design choices that we made in the nursery, because everything is working seamlessly, and I love the way it looks. Our dresser was one of the smartest choices we made. The changing table tray makes changing the baby a breeze, and when she is older we will remove the tray for a lovely dresser that will accommodate her toddler room and beyond.

We also adore these Huggies Designer Wipes Tubs. They look good sitting on top of the dresser! We appreciate that such a functional item can also bring style to her space. And these wipes work great for more than just changing diapers. We grab a wipe to clean her little face, and wipe of her hands. When she is eating solids, we know they will be useful for cleaning up spills!

I love that her crib has several different looks. It can be a four-poster crib, canopy crib (shown), or a standard crib. I think we are about to move the mattress down to a lower level, because soon she will start pulling herself up! It also transforms into a toddler bed with little toddler rails. When she is older, I think the toddler bed will be a cute house for her dollies and stuffed toys.

Speaking of toys, this straw basket toy box was also a good choice. We had a tough time deciding on a toy box. We did not want any sharp corners in her room, because tumbles are part of being a baby! We also did not want a lid that could close on tiny fingers. This basket makes a great box for some of her toys, and it looks cute, too. (Of course, we end up keeping her favorites in the family room with us, for easy accessibility!)

Clean Baby, Happy Baby

Since AListbaby is still so young, we operate on her time. We are not too strict yet with routines and deadlines…she has the rest of her life for that! But one thing we do every evening is bathtime. AListDaddy does the preparation, and I give her the bath.  AListDaddy runs the bath and makes sure the water temperature is just right, and the rubber duckies are floating in place. He sets out the fluffy hooded towel, the little pink hair brush, the jammies, the lotion, and the Huggies Snug & Dry diapers and Huggies Natural Care Wipes with Triple Clean Layers.

I am a big fan of these wipes. They are much thicker than the leading competitor, yet they are super gentle and smooth. After all, a Clean Baby is a Happy Baby! We love the scent, and the fact that the pretty plastic case does not make a big snapping sound every time it opens! We know these wipes will also be handy when AListBaby is older and eating solid foods…they will be perfect for wiping her face and the high chair!

Getting back to bathtime…I sing her the “rubber duckie” song, and I wash her locks with baby shampoo. I get her squeaky clean. We love the bathtub because it has a sling which holds her in place comfortably. I rinse her hair with warm water using two large plastic cups. I think she actually likes having her hair washed! She looks so cute in her fresh jammies, and she smells great, too. I love to wrap her in a super-soft blanket and give her a little soft toy to snuggle. I rock her to sleep. She is the perfect little angel baby! We are so lucky to have her.

AListBaby Loves VELVEETA!

When you have a little baby in the house, the whole dinner process changes. Long gone are the days where you can just swing in and out of the grocery store on a moment’s whim, and spend hours in the kitchen preparing an intricate dinner for two. These days, nutrition, taste and speed are the most important variables. I love fast and delicious menu ideas, and I went to kraftrecipes last night to find a dinner recipe for Mr. AList and me. I came across a delightful VELVEETA French bread pizza. It looked great, and I decided I could pair it with a crisp green salad and dressing. I am glad I tried this out! It only took about 10 minutes to prepare, and 20 minutes to cook in the over.

The star ingredient was VELVEETA, one of  my favorite things to keep in the fridge. It can be used in so many wonderful recipes! We paired our entree with a side salad complete with cucumbers and carrots.

Here is the recipe:

You need:

1 loaf  (1 lb.) French bread
1 can  (8 oz.) pizza sauce
6 oz.  VELVEETA®, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1-1/2 cups  Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
1/4 cup  Grated Parmesan Cheese

Directions:

HEAT oven to 375ºF.

CUT bread lengthwise in half, then cut each half crosswise into 3 pieces. Place on foil-covered baking sheet.

MICROWAVE pizza sauce in medium microwaveable bowl on HIGH 1 min. Stir in VELVEETA. Microwave 2-1/2 min. or until VELVEETA is completed melted and mixture is well blended, stirring after each minute. Spread onto bread; top with mozzarella and Parmesan.

BAKE 20 min. or until mozzarella is melted and lightly browned.

I think the meal turned out great, and it was a big hit with Mr. AList. The sauce with VELVEETA tasted creamy and sweet!  It makes me think spaghetti sauce would also be great with a little melted VELVEETA! The best part of this recipe is that it was quick, and did not take me away from my little angel baby for long. In fact, she sat in her little baby seat in the kitchen while I made the dinner. I often talk to her while I am cooking to keep her happy. She likes to hear my voice, and I always tell her she is helping. I will visit kraftrecipes again in the future for other menu ideas. I love that they have a feature that allows you to enter items you have in your house that you would like to use in your recipe, and it will give you a list of menu items that you can make with the ingredients you already have.

Velveeta asked me if I knew any Liquid Gold Diggers. I’ll know more soon once they taste these dishes! Why? Because Liquid Gold Diggers love the Liquid Gold of Velveeta.

AListBaby Meets Peter Rabbit

Hippity-Hoppity, Easter is on its way! The AListBaby met the big bunny himself at a Pottery Barn Kids event. She is enjoying the season with books about bunnies, songs about springtime, and an anticipated plane ride to visit the AListGrandpa and AListGranne! She is playing with toys, cooing, and she LOVES to listen to her Mommy sing songs to her. She is also a budding Mozart fan!

AListBaby Loves: Live Clean Baby

While rubber ducky makes bathtime lots of fun for baby…Live Clean Baby products make mommy so happy! The moisturizing baby lotion is like butter on AListBaby’s skin! We have also tried a leading competitors natural baby lotion, and it left dry patches on AListBaby’s body. What a difference with the Live Clean baby products. And they smell great, too. Of course, we love that all of the products care for baby’s delicate skin using plant based formulations enriched with certified organic botanicals that are safe for baby and safe for the earth. We are believers!

AListBaby Loves: Baby Biscotti

Dressing up AListBaby is one of our great joys in life! We love soft pink, white, and occasionally a pop of bright colors. Every day is dress-up day at our house. While we often stay close to home since AListBaby is still so little, we always have our little girl looking her best. One of our very favorite baby clothing designers is Baby Biscotti! We love the Lace Lullaby Infant Girl’s Top and Pant with Lace Details. The sweet lace and rosebuds on the top and the trim of the pants is just adorable. It is the softest cotton! Truly something special. Baby Biscotti pieces are timeless and beautiful.
