Girls Weekend: Dining at Pelican Hill

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by mary on 08-05-2012

Dining at The Resort at Pelican Hill is an experience. You know the food is going to be extraordinary—but it is also the service and the setting that make the restaurants here unique.

Located in the Pelican Hill Golf Club, Pelican Grill celebrates the best of coastal California dining.

We were greeted by the friendly staff at Pelican Grill the second we stepped into the restaurant. We enjoyed the feel of the open kitchen inside as we talked to our table on the terrace overlooking the Pacific. There is something unforgettable about the alfresco dining experience with such a stunning view…at sunset! The restaurant’s Palladian-style architecture overlooks the golf course and ocean below.

Sherene ordered a glass of wine, and I had a delightful fruit sparkler, as we toasted our weekend of relaxation.

I have dined at Andrea before here at The Resort at Pelican Hill…so I knew the handmade pasta here is unforgettable. This is why I selected the spaghetti pomodoro as my meal. It was mouth-watering and the perfect accompaniment to our bruschetta appetizer! Sherene dined on oysters and crispy French fries, with a variety of different dipping sauces. We were both thrilled with our selections! We completed our meal with the savory chocolate soufflé. The manager of the restaurant stopped by, and was very helpful as he answered questions about the food and the décor. As I have mentioned before, the staff attentiveness here is second to none.

After a delicious meal, we had a house car drive us back to our Bungalow, where we slipped into our jammies and ordered a movie. There was once a time where Sherene and I would have hit the hotspots of Newport—but as our lives get busier, there is nothing more desirable to us than a comfy bed and soft pillows, cozy in-Bungalow fireplace….and no alarm clock!

Girls weekend 2012 was a huge success! With luxury accommodations, relaxing resort grounds, a superb pool, an exceptional dining experience, an unforgettable spa day, and nearby shopping….what more can a girl ask for?

Mother’s Day Gifts on Red Envelope

If loving chocolate is wrong, I don’t want to be right! Mr. Alist and I were delighted when we received our Rocky Mountain Chocolate sampler from RedEnvelope.com. Our original intention was to gift this to one of the many chocolate lovers in our life for a unique Mother’s Day gift. That did not happen. Instead, we ended up nibbling away at them over the next few days. Chocolate is one addiction I’m not too proud to admit to.

Hey Ladies (and Gentlemen), Mother’s Day is quickly approaching and it is time to remember all the mothers in our lives! Thanks to RedEnvelope.com, we have a plethora of different gift options. I selected the beautiful Mother-Of-Pearl drop earrings as a gift and I’m sure the recipient will be thrilled. She’s rarely on the computer so I know I won’t be ruining any surprises and I think she’ll appreciate their understated yet classy look.

Girls Weekend: The Spa at Pelican Hill

We continue today by telling you about our Five-Star spa experience at Pelican Hill. My friend Sherene and I like to consider ourselves spa enthusiasts, so we had to book a morning at the beautiful Spa at Pelican Hill! We arrived thirty minutes before our treatments, so that we could enjoy the relaxation lounge. The lounge was very soothing and had a water feature. This room really helps put you in the mood to relax. I could feel my pulse slowing down and my breathing getting deeper.  The sofas and chairs seem to envelop you and really put you in the right mind-set for the rest of the day.

We then went to our treatment rooms and Amber Gold Signature Massages. We both agreed the expert touch of the Pelican Hill massage therapist was superb. Her touch just drew the stress out of my body. I especially loved the warm towel used to wrap my feet at the end of the treatment. The Swedish massage technique is amplified with dry brush exfoliation and enhanced oils.

After the massage, we went back to the relaxation lounge to relax a bit more, and have lunch. Lunch was sweet orange and pineapple juice, hearts-of-palm salad, and strawberry shortcake for dessert. {A perfect spa lunch! Light and tasty!} Eating lunch in a plush robe and slippers feels so luxurious.

Next, we visited the Acqua Colonnade. This features an herbal steam room, a sauna and an indoor Roman soaking tub. We put on our swimming suits and slipped into the saltwater whirlpool–where you can swim and lounge. We took a dip and chitchatted about the rest of our trip. Finally, to wrap up our morning, we showered and got glamorous. The showers were luxurious. They were stocked with high-end bath and body products. The vanity area featured top-of-the-line beauty products, as well. We were able to use their curling irons and hair dyers, too. I’ve never been to an ancient Roman spa but I’m pretty sure this is similar to what the Roman Emperors enjoyed! We HIGHLY recommend this Spa!

Girls Weekend at Pelican Hill

There is nothing more refreshing than a relaxing weekend at a luxury resort. After a stressful winter, I was so looking forward to a few days away with my friend Sherene in sunny Southern California! We wanted the most luxurious property we could think of: someplace with access to the beach, a sparking pool, a relaxed atmosphere…and great shopping nearby! This is why we selected The Resort at Pelican Hill for our fabulous girls weekend! Sherene was my college roommate, and she is like family to me. We needed a weekend away to catch up!

Nestled between the beach cities of Newport Beach and Laguna Beach, The Resort at Pelican Hill is just 15 minutes from Orange County’s John Wayne Airport. I was in Laguna visiting my sister, so I picked Sherene up at the airport, and we zipped over to The Resort at Pelican Hill for the best girls weekend…ever!

It is no surprise that The Resort at Pelican Hill has been voted the #1 Resort in the United States by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler, as well as the 2012 Grand Resort by Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Resort.

There is nothing like The Resort at Pelican Hill. From the majestic circular Coliseum Pool overlooking both golf courses and the ocean, to the residential feel of the Bungalow Guest Rooms. Upon check-on, Sherene and I decided our Bungalow exceeded the comforts of home! The spacious private terrace was our favorite spot to relax over some girl talk, get some sun, and even take a nap. The sunset from our terrace each evening over the Pacific was a memory we will never forget. Our single-story Bungalow was 847 square feet—spacious enough to spread out and relax!

The feel of the resort is truly an Italian Seaside Village. The service is exceptional, from the detailed introduction from the bellhop at check-in, to the waiters who are available to bring your favorite snacks and drinks to your cabana poolside. {The cabana was one of the highlights of our stay!}

Let me tell you a little more about this pool. It is in a perfect circle 136 in diameter, with beautiful tiles that sparkle in the sun. This pool is one of my favorite places in the world, because there is a view of the sky, ocean, and golf course. Luxuriously finished cabanas provide the perfect hideaway, with cold soft drinks in the refrigerator, a television and BOSE audio system, and food and beverage service available from the casual Coliseum Pool & Grill.  After some morning shopping at Fashion Island, which is conveniently accessible via complimentary Resort coach service, we spent the rest of Saturday at the cabana! We talked, we napped, we visited with other resort-goers, and we sipped cold drinks.

The service and grounds really set Pelican Hill apart from other resorts we have stayed at in the past. But there are also some other special things to note. First, there is no resort fee for use of the pools, fitness center and spa facilities. There is also complimentary valet parking, as well as parking available right outside your Bungalow. Complimentary wireless Internet access is also provided to guests. I love that there are no “surprise charges” at checkout!

Tomorrow, we will tell you all about The Spa at Pelican Hill, Newport’s only Five-Star rated spa!

AListBaby Loves: Kohl’s

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by mary on 05-04-2012

It looks like one of the hot trends of Spring and Summer 2012 is animal prints. With this in mind, I headed over to my local Kohl’s to get a hot new animal print outfit! I adore this Apt. 9 dress–it really gives a standout style. $34 Cheetah print and geometric trim are an eye-catching combination!

I paired the look with these sassy sandals from the Simply Vera Vera Wang Collection. These are satin floral wedge flip-flops. They feature satin floral accents for cute style. And I will be able to walk in them easily, because they have only a 2-inch heel! $14.99

Finally, I grabbed this Apt. 9 metallic lizard clutch to complete the outfit. I love that its a classic black, but the lizard texture gives it some edge! For only $19.60, this is a piece I will be able to use over and over again.

This can be used as a clutch, or I can pull out the chain for a chic strap. I had FUN shopping at the Kohl’s store near me. They have a ton of selection, and there were helpful sales people available when I had a question. You definitely want to check out Kohl’s for some fun, affordable additions to your spring wardrobe!
