Earlier this month, our family packed our bags for a NYC adventure! I was selected to participate in a “real moms” video for Tylenol. I cannot wait to show you the finished product when it is released. The other two video participants were Kristin from Our Ordinary Life and Alyssa, an editor for Allure magazine and publisher of Glitter Girl. The moderator of our panel was Lauren from Tend. We had such a good time! I am learning that moms always have a lot in common. And we were never at a loss for words when it came to discussing our little ones.
As you can see, baby girl made her way on set for a visit! She looked all cute in her Manhattan outfit, with a beret.
We enjoyed some fun family time, too! We took a carriage ride in Central Park, and she absolutely loved every second of it.
One of my favorite memories was our ride on the carousel at Bryant Park. What a gorgeous park, with the towering trees. Such a delightful, green park. We visited one afternoon, and also enjoyed breakfast there one morning. I think it may be my new favorite urban park. Baby girl loved her time riding the bunny on the carousel.
I got a little teary-eyed walking into the pumpkin patch last weekend. The four previous falls, I have driven by this patch, just WAITING for the moment I had my own little pumpkin. It was worth the wait. It was everything I dreamed it would be. Crisp fall air. Lots of giggles. A fun harvest outfit on my baby girl. She loved “driving” the tractors, and picking out her first pumpkin. She also got a kick out of riding in the wagon. We came home with a white, purple, and a traditional orange pumpkin. Definitely one of our most memorable outings. We will be back this weekend for the hayride!
We are crazy about Game of Thrones over here, so imagine Mr. AList’s thrill when AListBaby greeted him with this adorable Khaleesi onesie? How fun is this? She certainly is our little Khaleesi. We just cannot wait for the new season! Check out REDBUBBLE for all sorts of quirky and fun onesies/t-shirts/sweatshirts. They have some very clever items! And this site is good to keep in mind as we all start to think about holiday gifts!
This year has been a whirlwind of activity and fun. In addition to all of the flurry of fun a baby brings into the house, we have also decided to build a home here in Dallas. And that means many decisions. Thankfully, I adore design, so it has been a really good experience for me. And the most exciting room has been our kitchen. The kitchen is the heart of the home. We wanted to something bright, clean, and fresh. We like the look of this kitchen we previewed, above. For all of you considering a DIY project, I say, dive right in! You can get a lot of ideas from inspirational photos. The Home Depot website has some amazing ideas. Go with your gut! Put ideas from different photos together to create your dream space. Do not be afraid of color. You only live once. You can change things in years to come. I believe you should LOVE what you choose today. Here is a list of my must-haves. Everyone has their own unique style, and that is what makes this fun!
1.) White cabinets. I wanted cabinets with a raised surface, not flat. I wanted a modern feel, with a bright white finish. Clean lines were a must. I believe cabinets really make the kitchen. They are the dominant feature of the room. Whether you are re-painting, re-staining, or getting a whole new set, I think the most consideration should be given to your cabinets.
2.) Quartz countertops. I love the look of marble, but I do not love the maintenance. I do not want to have to worry about staining the surfaces, this is especially important with a little one around. So after some research, we decided quartz was best.
3.) Subway tile backsplash. I love this classic look for a backsplash. And I like a slightly glossy finish…and definitely a beveled edge.
Below is a look at some of our kitchen finishes. You can see that we love white, and we love the look of marble.
As I mentioned, the cabinets were by far the biggest decision. Checking out The Home Depot really makes sense when looking for cabinets, because they have so many choices that you are able to find exactly what you want to make your dream kitchen a reality. With Replace, Reface and Renew kitchen cabinet capabilities, you have the flexibility of finding an option that suits your lifestyle and budget.
I am crazy about cabinet organizers. I had to do pull-out shelves, deep drawers for pots, and organizers for cookie sheets. We decided on pull-out drawers for the trash, as well as spice drawers. It is really fun to customize your cabinets.
We look forward to getting all settled in and organized in our new kitchen. We hope to give some thought to the set-up process. I want to amp up my organization in 2014! With a little one, it seems like the days FLY by! The little details like putting your spices in a perfectly organized drawer, or having your cookie sheets lined up in a cabinet organizer, can really bring a smile to your face on a busy day.
Replace, Reface, ReNew are three options available ONLY at The Home Depot. Replace allows for full transformation of your kitchen cabinets with an array of choices from top brands. Reface is a perfect option to update your cabinets without a major renovation. And lastly, ReNew is ideal for consumers who want to give their existing cabinets a facelift without major disruptions and cost. And to complete your kitchen project, The Home Depot is your one stop shop for countertops, sinks, appliances, backsplashes and lighting.

Our little princess is nine months old! She is crawling everywhere, and standing up on furniture and “creeping” along. She is climbs up the stairs so fast we can barely keep up with her! She loves to explore, and when she sees a baby gate open she tries to make a break for it! We love all of the sounds she is making, and we know it will not be long until she is saying Mommy and Daddy. She loves stories, songs, and snuggles. Some of her favorite outings include storytime at the library, and morning swings at the park. My favorite hobby is dressing her! How PERFECT is this Baby Biscotti pink outfit? This is the Baby Biscotti Baby Girl Couture Top and Tutu Legging in pink. This is a treasure. The tutu is covered in pink sating roses. This is the most delicate, ideal color of light pink. The quality of this piece is unmatched. I love the satin roses that decorate the shoulder. This would be a perfect outfit for a birthday party or a trip to Grandpa and Granne’s house! We love Baby Biscotti for outfits that really stand out in a crowd!
We had our nine month doctor appointment today! Our little princess is doing great. She is crawling everywhere, standing up, and even scooting along the couch. She is also climbing stairs! We are having fun playing with blocks, reading books, and singing songs. She is making lots of sounds–but no official words, yet. Life could not be better.
Do you know what will be here before we know it? FALL! My favorite time of the year. It is the time of year where we get to celebrate my birthday, my wedding anniversary, and my baby’s birthday. And of course, Halloween! Can I tell you how excited I am for AListBaby’s first Halloween? Costume Express has the cutest options for little ones. I am THRILLED with this baby lion costume we just received in the mail. I mean seriously–have you seen anything cuter? There WILL be photos of her in this—eek! We cannot wait to share. But we want to give you a heads-up on this website as a great source for baby costumes.
The AListSister went to Universal Studios Hollywood with her husband and four kids this week, and she is filling us in on her adventure! (Note: her kids are ages 11-18.)
What a great day! We spent the day at Universal Studios in Hollywood. We got there right when they opened so we had the entire day to explore. I was very impressed with the park from the very beginning, the staff was very friendly and helpful. They have information booths set up around the park with staff to answer any questions you might have.
We were given three tips as we walked through the gate:
Tip # 1: Go to the backlot Studio tour first.
Tip #2 Go to the Lower Lot ride area early in the day before the lines get long.
Tip #3 See the Water World attraction early in the day.
We went to the Backlot Studio tour first, and it was a family favorite. We then went to the lower lot to go on the four rides. Even though there were six in our party we found that going to the single rider line was the way to go to avoid standing in lines. You can also purchase a front of the line priority access card. My kids went on the Jurassic Park ride four times, on a hot day, you will get wet.
The park had two areas for younger children called “Dino Play” which is a dinosaur to climb on, and “Curious George”, a play area where it would be a good idea to have a swim suit. There was also a program called “Child Switch” in which one member of the party could wait with the child while the rest of the party rides, then switch places. There is a discount on ticket prices for children under 48 inches.
There were Characters throughout the park that you could meet: Transformers, Shrek, The Simpsons, SpongeBob, Scooby-Doo, Dora, and Curious George.
One nice touch was that throughout the park they had misters and fans with misters in areas they call “Cool Zones”. (Most of the shows were indoors, Water World was the only one that was not, but even then all the areas had a tarp covering where you had to wait to keep you out of the direct sun).
There are several shopping and dining options both inside the park and on the City Walk before the entrance to the park. What a FUN way to spend the day with the family!
We just got back from Orange County California and Kia was kind enough to lend us a Kia Soul to drive. As our faithful readers know, we love Kias and try to drive them whenever we get the chance. Our Soul was an eye catching metallic green Kia calls “Alien”. The car itself was fully loaded with a lot of great features like a back up camera, leather seats, remote start, navigation, and satellite radio.
Driving the Soul is definitely a unique experience. It’s very peppy, gets great mileage, has incredibly maneuverability and has cool ambient lights that changes with the music. All these traits make the Soul very fun to drive. It’s kind of like a point-and-shoot car. It also handles incredibly well. It was very exciting on the twisty canyon roads of California. On the freeway, it has more than enough power to keep and get around traffic, especially with the optional 2 liter 4 cylinder engine. The seating position is really nice too. The seats are at hip level and make getting in and out of the car so easy. We also found that having a higher seating position makes it so much easier to load a baby seat into the back seat. Also, sitting up high gives you a bit more confidence on the road, you can just see farther!
My next post will talk about the 10 Things We Love About The Kia Soul. Also, follow us on twitter at @alistbabynet
